Meet the Owners, Valerie & Jim Prather, of The Entertainer!

We are entertainers…Jim and I love to have friends and family over for dinner parties, impromptu barbeques and big celebrations. I think it is because we love to share what we have, and enjoy the company of our good friends and our family. Just ask most of our friends. They think we run a Bed & Breakfast, because we have company staying so often!

We have been married for 34 years and have been best friends as well as married people, all along. 25 years ago we started our own landscaping company that grew to 75 employees and was very successful in Southern California. I always ran the office and Jim was the one to get the jobs and run the employees. Both of us are extremely organized and budget minded which we feel is the reason for our success!

We were lucky enough to move up here to Northern Nevada, in the Carson Valley, 13 years ago while our children were young enough to enjoy the rural lifestyle here. We had a 40 acre ranch, still ran the business in California, and were raising 3 boys. After all of our boys left for school and moved out to start their own lives, we decided to downsize and have a simpler life! We sold the ranch, sold the business and bought a house on 5 acres, and have been retired for the last 3 years.

I was always involved in leadership, social clubs and philanthropic organizations in school and was in charge of many events. Having a creative streak, I went on to The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles, California, for Interior Design. I worked in that field for a few years, but having a young family and our own business to run, made it a real challenge.

Jim and I headed the organization of our 10, 20 and 30 year class reunions, which were all very successful and had good attendance by several hundred people. I have also been in charge of many church functions, parties and weddings over the last 20 years. Currently, I am a member of the American Academy of Wedding Professionals and am in the process of getting certified as a professional wedding planner!

Jim has been blessed with a very charismatic personality and was the creative force behind his landscaping company. His gift is exterior design, which will be a great asset, for placing & planning at weddings and events! He is very outgoing and attended many seminars in the early years, for sales and success training.

We are very excited to be working with Gary and Jackie Nielsen to learn how and why they have been so successful in this business. For the rest of the year, we will be shadowing them at all their events to learn the "ins and outs" of the wedding and events business.

Our goal for you, is first, to make your wedding day or event, a day to remember by alleviating the stress of planning and putting a function like this together. Next, we know that everyone's budget is not the same, so we will work with all budgets to make your event a success. Last, is to reflect your personalities to your guests by making your event warm and inviting and by having the personal touches that make your day a lasting memory.
